Course Objectives

The main purpose of this course is to complete the mathematical education acquired previously. New tools are provided, whose use is widespread both in Economics and in Management Science, such as integral and probability calculus. The second purpose of the course is to introduce financial calculus and its most relevant applications in practice. The first part of the course is relevant for future applications, while the second one has an immediate professional value.

Detailed Description of Assessment Methods
The exam consists of a written exam. Two alternative modalities are available:

  • Two partial written exams.
  • One general written exam.

The students have the opportunity to take two partial exams: the first partial written exam is scheduled during the course and concerns the first part of the course, the second partial exam is scheduled at the end of the course and concerns the second part of the course. Each partial exam is assessed with a mark ranging from 0 to 31. The final mark is the simple average, rounded up, of the two partial marks. All students who take both partial exams and get a final mark of at least 18 points (the two single marks are not relevant) have passed the exam. Final marks larger than 30 imply honors.

A general written exam is scheduled in every exam session. The general written concerns all the course contents and it is assessed with a mark ranging from 0 to 31. Marks greater than 30 imply honors.

To take any written exam, students are required to register for: not registered students cannot sit for the exams.

The written exams are closed book: during the exam, students are not allowed to use books and notes.
