L'obiettivo del corso e' offrire agli studenti un'ampia panoramica dell'evoluzione dell'economia mondiale nel millennio che ci siamo lasciati alle spalle. Unita' di analisi sono le grandi aree della civilta': l'Europa e le sue "appendici" americane, la Cina e l'Estremo Oriente, l'India, il mondo musulmano. Cio' che si vuole sottolineare e' che "la ricchezza e la poverta' delle nazioni" sono inequivocabilmente segnate da fattori istituzionali e socio-culturali.

Class group/s taught in English
The aim of this course is to provide the student with a broad understanding of the evolution of the world economy with special attention to Europe. The development of the European economy will be analyzed considering institutional, social and cultural factors and by using a historical approach. The European case will be considered in a broad comparative perspective: in addition to Europe and its American "appendices", the units of analysis will be the great world civilizations - China and the Far East, India, the Muslim world. The main objective of the course is to stress that the "wealth and poverty of nations" are unquestionably shaped by institutional and socio-economical elements.
