Biographical note

Ciao, my name is Paola Mariani, and I am an associate professor of international law at Bocconi University, teaching International and EU law. I am also involved in the Bocconi Lab for European Studies (BLEST). My research interests lie in critically assessing the role of international and European Union Law in governing the significant challenges of the age of globalized economy. In teaching, I try to give my students the basic legal background every lawyer needs to address the many cross-border implications of our global and integrated world.

About

My Paper presented at SIEL 2021 MILAN GLOBAL CONFERENCE (7 July 2021) is now on SSRN: Export Control and Measures Affecting Trade in Goods in Global COVID-19 Crisis: the Emergence of Sanitary Protectionism in the European Union. http://ssrn.com/abstract=3901944

Research interests

I carry out my research in an area in between International and European Union Law and focus on economic and trade issues. In recent years I have been researching on Brexit, publishing a volume on “Leaving the European Union: legal reflections on withdrawal in the days of Brexit”, EGEA, Milan, 2018, quoted by Attorney General Campos Sánchez-Bordona, in the first case on the interpretation of Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union decided by the Court of Justice, two chapters in volumes II and III of The Law and Politics of Brexit (edited by Federico Fabbrini), for the Oxford University Press and a handful of articles published in peer-reviewed journals. Another research area is the effect of the Covid 19 crisis in international trade and, in particular, the trade measures adopted by the European Union.
