Mission e Programma sintetico
MISSION

    • Introduzione all'analisi statistica multivariata.

    Mission & Content Summary
    MISSION

The aim of this course is to show how quantitative methods can help to take better strategic and operational marketing decisions, making use of extensive quantitative research. The techniques taught during the course could be useful to analyze also internal data (customer database analysis).

    CONTENT SUMMARY
    • Data Sources (internal and research data), qualitative and estensive quantitative research.
    • Extensive quantitative research (survey) steps.
    • Statistical data analysis:
      • Univariate (frequency distribution tables and graphs, measures of synthesis of location and dispersion, shape of distributions).
      • Bivariate (crosstabulation analysis, analysis of variance, correlation analysis and related statistical tests of hypotheses).
      • Multivariate.
      • Quantitative approach to demand segmentation: classic and flexible models (factor analysis, conjoint analysis and cluster analysis).
      • Linear regression models.
      • Attribute and non attribute based techniques for competitive positioning studies (Linear discriminant analysis, Correspondence analysis, Multidimensional scaling).
    • Outline of some reporting and result interpretation problems.

    Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)
    KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
At the end of the course student will be able to...

    Get the following competences:

    DETAILS

In the course two different approaches are used: theoretical and applicative.

    • A number of marketing research and data analysis case histories are shown, using specific statistical and reporting software (IBM SPSS Statistics).
    • At the end of the course, students are able to reply all the analysis by themselves.

    ATTENDING STUDENTS

The exam consists of designing, implementing and presenting a market research project. The project focuses on a quantitative market research activity (analysis and reporting) that can be done individually or in a group of maximum three people.

    • The final report must be discussed during the oral examination session. The following aspects are considered during the oral examination:
      • The understanding of the theoretical concepts of statistics presented during the course and their correct application to the project’s analyses.
      • The learning of the applied statistical techniques and the interpretation of the results deriving from them.
      • The ability to summarize in the final report the most important business insights of the market research activity, as well as the capability to effectively present the results to the exam commission.
    • If a student fails the oral assessment (final grade lower than 18/30), showing inadequate preparation during the project presentation, the student has to take the non-attending exam.
    • The evaluation of the final report considers the following criteria, accordingly to a specified weight:
      • 30%: completeness of analysis (presence of a qualitative research, number of quantitative techniques applied in the report, …).
      • 30%: quality and correctness of the analysis.
      • 30%: marketing implications.
      • 10%: report editing.
    NOT ATTENDING STUDENTS

The assessment method for non-attending students consists of an oral test.

The questions focuses on the entire program of the course and can be of two types:

    • Theoretical questions, aimed at checking the learning and the understanding of the theoretical concepts underlying the univariate, bivariate and multivariate analyses presented in the course.
    • Questions on the interpretation of statistical outputs of some analyses produced using the statistical software.

For this type of exam, we suggest students to prepare for their test by consulting the textbook, referring to the chapters specifically indicated in the Syllabus. The written exam lasts one hour and thirty minutes. In accordance with the University regulations, it is not possible to reject the grade.
