Mission & Content Summary

MISSION

“Digital disruption is fueling innovation in the travel industry now and will continue to do so for years to come,” says the Senior VP of Mastercard. The travel and tourism sector is undergoing a profound transformation fueled by digital disruption. From search and booking to production, distribution, and delivery, digital innovation is reshaping the entire visitor journey, making it more seamless and personalized. Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), real-time data, blockchain, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) are increasingly being adopted to enhance visitor experiences, optimize operations, and create value in new ways. Many tourism companies are leveraging digital technologies to secure tourist loyalty and expand their business. Others—including global leaders as well as startups and smart destinations—have made digital innovation the cornerstone of new business models. This course explores how digital innovations are transforming the tourism sector and examines their practical applications and strategic implications for both tourism businesses and destinations. Through real-world cases and active participation by industry professionals, students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to understand, evaluate, and implement these innovations while considering the challenges of a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
