Mission e Programma sintetico
MISSION

Il corso si propone di fornire le conoscenze e i metodi di base per capire il ruolo dell’attività finanziaria all’interno dei sistemi economici insieme al funzionamento del sistema finanziario nel suo complesso. Il programma fornisce le conoscenze e gli strumenti indispensabili per comprendere il funzionamento del sistema finanziario. I contenuti, di questa parte, sono divisi in quattro sezioni: la prima, è tesa a dare un quadro d’insieme sui sistemi finanziari; la seconda analizza l’economia degli intermediari finanziari; quella successiva prende in esame i mercati finanziari; infine, l’ultima approfondisce le caratteristiche dell’attuale crisi finanziaria e il ruolo della Banca Centrale Europea. Lo studio degli argomenti proposti dal programma del corso tiene conto degli assetti regolamentari del contesto italiano e mira ad agevolare gli studenti nella comprensione degli elementi che caratterizzano il comportamento dei soggetti che operano nel sistema finanziario (investitori, intermediari, fornitori di servizi finanziari, Autorità di vigilanza…). A tale fine, a lezioni in cui vengono esposti e commentati i modelli teorici, con continui riferimenti alle notizie economico-finanziarie più recenti, si alternano sessioni dedicate allo studio di casi e a testimonianze.

Comprendere gli elementi distintivi che all'interno del sistema economico caratterizzano gli strumenti finanziari, i mercati finanziari, le banche e le altre istituzioni finanziarie. In particolare lo studente che ha superato l'esame:

  • Apprende il ruolo del sistema finanziario all'interno dell'economia.
  • Ha le basi concettuali per comprendere in modo organico il funzionamento delle istituzioni e dei mercati finanziari.
  • Conosce i principali mercati finanziari e gli strumenti che vi sono negoziati.
  • Conosce le grandi categorie di istituzioni finanziarie ed i loro modelli gestionali.

  • Valutare criticamente l'operatività del sistema finanziario all'interno dell'economia nello svolgimento delle sue funzioni:
    • Trasferimento ed allocazione delle risorse finanziarie.
    • Gestione dei rischi.
    • Produzione dei mezzi monetari e trasmissione della politica monetaria.
  • Interpretare e valutare il comportamento dei soggetti che operano nel sistema finanziario (investitori, intermediari finanziari, fornitori di servizi finanziari, Autorita' di vigilanza), tenendo conto degli assetti regolamentari del contesto italiano. In particolare:
    • Ha le basi concettuali per comprendere in modo organico il funzionamento delle istituzioni e dei mercati finanziari.
    • Sa esaminare le caratteristiche fondamentali dei principali mercati finanziari  e degli strumenti che vi sono negoziati.
    • Sa analizzare i modelli gestionali delle diverse istituzioni finanziarie e comprendere il loro approccio operativo al mondo finanziario.
  • Relativamente ai mercati azionario ed obbligazionario, è in grado di valutare il rischio/rendimento di titoli e di portafogli di titoli.

DETTAGLI

Agli studenti è richiesta una partecipazione attiva alle lezioni. É consigliata la lettura del materiale didattico indicato, prima della lezione. E’ altresì consigliato l’uso di una calcolatrice finanziaria. La partecipazione alle esercitazioni è consigliata. L’esperienza passata mostra infatti che:

  • La frequenza alle esercitazioni contribuisce fortemente alla comprensione dei principi fondamentali della materia ed alla capacità degli studenti di applicarli nelle decisioni di analisi di mercati finanziari e valutazioni di portafoglio.
  • Gli studenti frequentanti hanno minori difficoltà nella preparazione dell’esame.

    STUDENTI FREQUENTANTI E NON FREQUENTANTI

    Non sono previste prove intermedie. L’esame generale si svolge esclusivamente in forma scritta al termine del corso. Ciascuna prova sarà composta da uno o più esercizi a domanda aperta e da domande chiuse con modalità “multiple choice” (MC) di 24 domande. Nella modalità MC, ogni risposta corretta attribuisce 1,1 punti; ogni risposta errata prevede una penalizzazione pari a -0,20 punti; nel caso di “nessuna risposta” è attribuito un punteggio pari a “zero”. All’esercizio a domanda aperta è attribuito un punteggio da 0 a 5 punti. La “lode” è assegnata a chi ottiene un punteggio pari o superiore a 31 punti. Per ottenere un voto finale sufficiente occorre conseguire almeno 17,6 punti (che corrispondono, dopo arrotondamento, a un voto pari a 18). Al termine del corso, i docenti forniranno alcuni esempi di domande multiple choice. Non è prevista alcuna integrazione. Qualunque valutazione raggiunta (purché sufficiente) sarà registrata automaticamente senza alcuna eccezione, come previsto dalle norme generali di ateneo. Qualora a seguito dell’avvenuta registrazione, la segreteria dovesse verificare il mancato conseguimento dei crediti formativi necessari al sostenimento dell’esame in oggetto, il voto sarà annullato d’ufficio dalla segreteria centrale. Non è pertanto possibile consentire allo studente una successiva registrazione del voto conseguito.

    To feel comfortable in this course, students should be familiar with basic knowledge of mathematics and financial mathematics, as well as issues related to the analysis of financial statements and the concepts of discounting and capitalization.


    Mission & Content Summary
    MISSION

    The course aims to provide the knowledge and basic methods to understand the role of financial activity in economic systems together with the functioning of the financial system as a whole. The program provides the knowledge and tools necessary for understanding the functioning of the financial system. The contents of this part are divided into four sections: the first is intended to give an overview of the financial systems; the second analyzes the economics of financial intermediaries; the next one examines the financial markets; finally, the last examines the characteristics of the current financial crisis and the role of Federal Reserve. The study of the topics proposed by the course program takes into account the regulatory frameworks of the Italian context and aims to facilitate students in understanding the elements that characterize the behavior of the subjects operating in the financial system (investors, intermediaries, financial service providers, vigilance...). The course combines lessons in which theoretical models are exposed and commented, with continuous references to the most recent economic-financial news, with sessions dedicated to the study of cases and testimonies.

    Critically evaluate the operativity of the financial system within the economy while exercising its functions:

    • Transfer and allocation of financial resources.
    • Risk management.
    • Production of monetary resources and the transmission of monetary policy.
    • Interpret and evaluate the behavior of the subjects operating in the financial system (investors, financial intermediaries, financial services providers, Supervisory Authorities), taking into account the regulatory frameworks of the American context.

    In particular:

    • Have the conceptual basis for understanding the functioning of financial institutions and markets in an organic way.
    • Be able to examine the fundamental characteristics of the main financial markets and of the instruments that are traded.
    • Be able to analyze the management models of the various financial institutions and understand their operational approach to the financial world.
    • With regard to equity and bond markets, he is able to assess the risk/return of securities and of securities portfolios.

    DETAILS

    Students are required to participate actively in the lessons. Reading the teaching material indicated before the lesson is recommended. The use of a financial calculator is also recommended. Participation in the exercises is recommended. The past experience shows in fact that: 

    • Attendance at the exercises strongly contributes to the understanding of the fundamental principles of the subject and the ability of the students to apply them in the decisions of analysis of financial markets and evaluations of the portfolio.
    • Attending students have less difficulty in preparing for the exam.

    ATTENDING STUDENTS

    There are no partial tests. The teaching material under examination includes the chapters indicated in the analytical program. The general exam is exclusively written and takes place at the end of the course. Each test consists of one or more open-ended exercises and closed questions: among the questions 24 are "multiple choice" (MC).

    • In MC mode, each correct answer attributes 1.1 points; each wrong answer provides a penalty equal to -0.20 points; in the case of "no answer" a score equal to "zero" is assigned.
    • A score from 0 to 5 points is assigned to the open-ended exercise.
    • The "laude" is assigned to those who get a score equal to or greater than 31 points. At least 17.6 points must be achieved to obtain a final grade (corresponding to a mark equal to 18 after rounding).
    • At the end of the course, professors provide some examples of multiple choice questions.
    • There is no integration allowed. Any evaluation achieved (as long as it is sufficient) is recorded automatically without any exceptions, as required by the general university regulations. If after registration, the secretariat should verify the failure to obtain the necessary training credits to take the exam in question, the vote is automatically deleted by the central secretariat. Therefore, it is not possible to allow the student to register the grades obtained.
    • During the exams, in order to avoid unequal treatment, the professor/tutor not answers to questions that require a personal response, but only to those that are exposed to the class as a whole.
    • After the communication of the exams’ results, professors fix a date for the exams’ show, in order to allow each student to view his / her own test. On the other hand, it is not foreseen the vision by individual appointment.
    NOT ATTENDING STUDENTS

    The assessment of learning for non-attending students takes place through a single written test on the entire program with the same structure of the method described for attending students. In this case, no integration is foreseen too. The results obtained are valid only in the session in which the exam is held. The teaching material under examination includes the chapters indicated in the analytical program.

    • During the exams, in order to avoid unequal treatment, the professor/tutor not answers questions that require a personal response but only to those that are exposed to the class as a whole.
    • After the communication of the exams’ results, professors fix a date for the exams’ show, in order to allow each student to view his / her own test. On the other hand, it is not foreseen the vision by individual appointment.
