Mission e Programma sintetico
MISSION

Il corso ha lo scopo di fornire agli studenti le conoscenze di base di statistica e di analisi dei dati necessarie per affrontare i corsi obbligatori di Metodi Quantitativi, presenti nei bienni M e MM.

PROGRAMMA SINTETICO
  • Nozioni introduttive: fonti dei dati, database, teoria di campionamento.
  • Descrizione di dati qualitativi: classificazione delle variabili, analisi univariata di dati qualitativi, analisi bivariata di dati qualitativi, rappresentazioni grafiche.
  • Descrizione di dati quantitativi: misure di tendenza centrale e non centrale, individuazione dei dati anomali, analisi bivariata di dati quantitativi, rappresentazioni grafiche.
  • Variabili aleatorie (cenni): probabilità, variabili aleatorie, distribuzioni notevoli.
  • Introduzione all’inferenza statistica: stima puntuale e per intervallo, introduzione alla teoria dei test.
  • Test per analisi bivariate: analisi di connessione, test confronta medie, test sul coefficiente di correlazione, regressione lineare semplice e test sui coefficienti.

Mission & Content Summary
MISSION

The course is meant to provide students with the basic elements of statistics and data analysis whose knowledge is required for the mandatory quantitative methods courses in Master of Science: M and MM.

CONTENT SUMMARY
  • Introduction concepts: data sources, databases, sampling theory.
  • Qualitative data: variable classification, univariate and bivariate frequency analysis.
  • Quantitative data: variable classification, univariate analysis (location, spread and shape indexes), bivariate analysis (correlation).
  • Random variables: probability and common distributions.
  • Introduction to statistical inference: point and interval estimation.
  • Introduction to statistical test: connection, means, correlation, linear regression.

An introduction to the basic concepts of statistics and probability required for the 20191 and 20192 courses in the CLEFIN degree.

CONTENT SUMMARY

Mathematics for statistical applications:

  • Some matrix algebra.
  • Interplay between matrix algebra and statistics. Expected values, Covariance matrices and related properties.
  • Introduction to the linear model in matrix notation.

Review of Key Statistical Concepts:

  • Definition of random variables and its applications.
  • Useful distributional results.
  • Introduction to inference.
  • Point estimation.
  • Confidence intervals.
  • Tests of hypothesis.
  • Application of inference to simple finance problems: estimation of means, variances, and covariances.

Some distribution theory:

  • The use of the Gaussian in hypothesis testing and confidence intervals.
  • The multidimensional Gaussian distribution.

MISSION

The course is meant to provide students with the elements of probability theory and statistics whose knowledge is required for the mandatory Advanced Statistics course of the Economic and Social Sciences MS program. We assume knowledge of the content of a basic undergraduate Statistics course such as, for example, Bocconi’s Statistics 30001 course.

CONTENT SUMMARY
  • Common distributions (Poisson, Inverse binomial, Geometric, Gamma, Beta) and calculation of their moments.
  • Transformations of discrete and continuous random variables.
  • Random vectors: joint, marginal, and conditional distributions. Bivariate transformations.
  • Convergence in probability and in distributions of sequences of random variables.
  • Sampling from normal populations: sampling distribution of the sample mean and variance (Student’s t distribution and Chi-squared distribution).

Introduzione ai concetti di base di matematica e statistica necessari per affrontare il corso 20191 e 20192 del biennio CLEFIN.

PROGRAMMA SINTETICO

Matematica per le applicazioni statistiche:

  • Cenni di algebra delle matrici.
  • Connessioni tra algebra delle matrici e statistica. Valori attesi, matrici di covarianza e loro proprietà.
  • Introduzione al modello lineare in forma matriciale.

Sommario di concetti base della Statistica:

  • Definizione di variabile aleatoria e sue applicazioni.
  • Alcuni risultati circa distribuzioni statistiche.
  • Introduzione all’inferenza.
  • Stima puntuale.
  • Intervalli di confidenza.
  • Test di ipotesi statistiche.
  • Applicazione dell’inferenza a semplici problemi in Finanza: stima di medie, varianze e covarianze.

Elementi di teoria delle distribuzioni:

  • L’uso della distribuzione gaussiana nei problemi di test e nella costruzione di intervalli di confidenza.
  • La distribuzione gaussiana nel caso multidimensionale.
