Course Objectives

The course offers an advanced treatment of the theme of the development of enterpreneurship within and around firms, through organizational networks, in the context of innovative activities; integrating organizational and strategic aspects. The course employes active teaching methods; in particular it recommends the prior reading of one leading article (including case studies) per session.


Course Content Summary

Part I. Enterpreneurship and network organization

  • Nature of enterpreneurship and its link with networks
  • Forms of network organization for enterpreneurship within the firm (The deregulation of corporations, Cellular forms, Internal hybrids,  Project based firm, Management by communities)
  • Forms of enterpreneurial networks  between firms (Regional networks and constellations, consortia, joint ventures, capital ventures, interfirm projects)
  • The organizational embeddedness of start-ups

Part II. Business policies and strategies for enterpreneurship

  • Stategy and enterpreneurship
  • Enterpreneurship in large firms (Internal corporate ventures, spin-offs)
  • Parental advantage and M&A
  • Stategy, accounting and control in start-ups

Detailed Description of Assessment Methods

Attending students
Student evaluation: class participation (50%) and final work (case analysis, 50%) for each part of the course.
