PROGRAMMA SINTETICO / CONTENT SUMMARY
The duration of the course is one year (1st and 2nd semesters of 1st year) (96 hours + general exam).

L’insegnamento è annuale (primo + secondo semestre) del 1° anno (96 ore di didattica + prova generale).
Il programma affronta le seguenti macro-tematiche principali in modo da consentire di raggiungere il livello B2 general (in termini di grammatica, sintassi e vocabolario) attraverso situazioni concrete e contestualizzate: Training, Working Abroad, Logistics, International Marketing, Working Conditions, HR Management, Customer service, Talking facts, Management Styles, Leadership, Global Business

Knowledge
Students will acquire a good level of grammar and syntax as well as a fairly wide vocabulary that will enable them to be independent users of English language and deal with non-familiar and quite complex topics.

Lo studente avrà acquisito conoscenze grammaticali - sintattiche e un range lessicale di buon livello che consentono autonomia di espressione e comprensione anche relativamente ad argomenti non familiari e di una certa complessità.

Students will be able to write clear, well-structured and detailed texts; reports, letters,emails, on complex topics, showing understanding of conventions, controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices ; to interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers possible without strain for either party; to be clear and detailed when speaking and explaining view points, giving the pros and cons of various options.

Lo studente sarà in grado di produrre un testo chiaro e dettagliato; reports, letters, emails, su una gamma di argomenti, di comprendere le idee principali di testi articolati su argomenti sia concreti sia astratti. Sarà in grado di interagire con una certa scioltezza e spontaneità che rendono possibile un dialogo naturale con i parlanti nativi senza sforzo per l'interlocutore, esprimendosi in modo chiaro e articolato su molteplici argomenti e riuscirà a spiegare i pro e i contro relativi a varie opzioni.

- Face-to-face lectures: these are conducted by the professor who is assigned to the course.
- Exercises (Exercises, database, software etc.): these are selected at the consent of the professor from the materials available to them.
- Individual assignments: these are assigned by the professor during the first and second semesters.
- Online lectures will available to students who are unable to be present in class.

STUDENTI FREQUENTANTI E NON FREQUENTANTI / ATTENDING AND NOT ATTENDING STUDENTS
The assessment method consists of an exam focused on reading, writing, listening and speaking competencies in line with international certifications.
The mark is expressed out of 30.
Student can sit the exam (“general” mode) as from the end of second semester (after the end of the teaching period).
5 exam sessions are scheduled throughout the year (May-Jun, Jun-Jul, Aug-Sept, Oct, Jan-Feb).
The exam consists of two linked parts: written (focused on writing, reading, listening) and oral (final part focused on speaking).
Please note that:
- to sit for the exam, it is required to register via Punto Blu (one single registration, valid for both written and oral part)
- written and oral part have to be taken in the same exam session
- the written part is the same for both attending and non attending students
- final grade: result of the written part + result of the oral part
- maximum result of the written part: 27
- if the result of written part is ≥18, the student is required to sit the oral part (in the same exam session as the written part); withdrawal is not allowed after handing in the written paper as the oral part is just the final step of a single exam (in line with international certifications)
- students who hand in the written test receive notification (via Agenda yoU@B) about their result and paper view. Students who have passed the writtten exam shall, at a later date, receive details about date, hour and room for the oral part
- result range for the oral part: min -1 - max +4
- if the student is absent at the oral part, or does not interact orally, they will receive -3.
Written part
Writing (30 marks), Listening (30 marks), Reading Comprehension (40 marks). Each part is assigned a mark and the sum of these marks is converted into thirtieths to give the grade of the written part.( maximum grade awardable: 27/30)

Students will apply their knowledge of grammar while acquiring a good knowledge of syntax as well as widening their vocabulary, which will enable them to become more effective independent users of the English language, allowing them to deal with non-familiar and quite complex topic areas.
