MISSION

People are the enduring sources of competitive advantage. People are our most important asset. Since many years, managers, professionals and academics pronounce these words. The main objective of this course is to understand the rational of these words and to learn how it is possible, beyond managerial rhetoric, to manage people so that they really become a stable source of the competitive advantage. In the framework of the strategic human resource management, the course offers an overview of the most relevant human resource management policies and practices. Teaching methods reflect an international and professional focus of the course. The course add value to the Master of Science contribuiting to the development of people management skills which each future manager requires.

DETAILS

  • Face-to-face lectures: face-to-face lectures where students are continuously stimulated to interact on current topics.
  • Guest speaker's talks  (in class or in distance)
  • Interview simulations with companies' interviewers (in class or in distance)
  • Theories and/or case studies discussions: the case study method is used in many occasions, both in in-class discussions and assignments. We use case studies, mini-case studies, and incidents.
  • Oral presentations of individual/group assignments: all individual and group assignments and case studies are presented and discussed in class by students.
  • Individual assignments: developed independently by the student following the instructions posted on Bboard, delivered within the assigned deadline, and discussed in class.

ATTENDING STUDENTS

  • General individual written exam: multiple choice questions (20 points) on all the covered chapters of the book (1,2,4,5,6,8,9,11,12) + 1 or 2 mini case studies (11 points) ) on the same book chapters (1,2,4,5,6,8,9,11,12) and all content covered in the course. General exam is comprised of two parts. The first part with MCQ allows students to develop a business/organizational language and to verify learning and understanding of specific knowledge (concepts and methods) taught in class, relating to the HR strategy and the human resource management systems. The second part with 1 or 2 mini case studies that aims at developing problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Write-up of all group exercises and case discussions  must be uploaded in the Bb before the live discussion starts
  • Average peer evaluation 2 or more. Peer evaluation will open the last day of the course and close on Friday at midnight, the same week.  Those students who do not complete the peer evaluation will be excluded from the attending exam.

NOT ATTENDING STUDENTS

General written exam on the knowledge relating to the HR strategy and human resource management systems, acquired by studying the two assigned textbooks on the calendar sessions. The exam is made of multiple choice questions (max 31 points) on all the chapters of the two textbooks.
