MISSION

People are the enduring sources of competitive advantage. People are our most important asset. Since many years, managers, professionals and academics pronounce these words. The main objective of this course is to understand the rational of these words and to learn how it is possible, beyond managerial rhetoric, to manage people so that they really become a stable source of the competitive advantage. In the framework of the strategic human resource management, the course offers an overview of the most relevant human resource management policies and practices. Teaching methods reflect an international and professional focus of the course. The course add value to the Master of Science contribuiting to the development of people management skills which each future manager requires.

DETAILS

  • Face-to-face lectures: face-to-face lectures where students are continuously stimulated to interact on current topics.
  • Case studies discussion both in-class discussions and group assignments. We use case studies, mini-case studies, and incidents.
  • Exercises, quantitative and qualitative, both in class discussion and group assignments.
  • Oral presentations of group assignments: all group assignments are presented and discussed in class by students.

ATTENDING STUDENTS

  • General individual written exam: 4 mini case studies (20 points) on everything covered in class, including cases and exercise.

  • In class group works on case studies or exercises (11 points). Please refer to the detailed syllabus for the allocated points to each case or exercise. Write-up of all group exercises and case discussions must be uploaded in the Bb before the live discussion starts.

  •  Average peer evaluation 2 or more. Peer evaluation will open the last day of the course and close on Friday at midnight, the same week. Those students who do not complete the peer evaluation will be excluded from the attending exam.

  • ATTENDANCE: To be considered attending student you will need to attend 18 out of the 22. You can miss in other words 4 sessions. Of these 4 sessions, a maximum of 2 can be sessions with graded cases or exercises.

     

 

Please note that students cannot retake the class in the second year: Will have to take as a non-attending if not taken/passed the exam after the September session.


NOT ATTENDING STUDENTS

General written exam on the knowledge relating to the HR strategy and human resource management systems, acquired by studying the assigned textbook. The exam is made of multiple choice questions (max 31 points) on all the chapters of the textbook (excluding chapters 3,13 and 14).
