Suggested background knowledge

Please note that starting from the academic year 2025/2026, this course will be offered exclusively in English. Therefore, in the academic year 2025/2026, only students who still need to complete the Italian-taught version of the course will be allowed to: 1) attend the English-taught course in 2025/2026 and take the exam in English (which will be recorded in their transcript as the Italian exam). To do so, please request access to the 2025/2026 course materials via B in Touch, starting from January 2026, indicating the class for which you wish to be authorised, without contacting the instructor; OR 2) take the exam in Italian based on the 2024/2025 syllabus. MISSION

Since marketing activities take place within a regulated economic environment, the course aims to analyse the legal opportunities and risks that both enable and constrain marketing practices.

CONTENT SUMMARY

During the course, the following topics will be discussed:

  • Data protection

  • Trademarks

  • Domain names

  • AdWords

  • Trademark licensing

  • Merchandising

  • Advertising

  • Interest-based advertising

  • Sponsorship / Ambush marketing

  • Online distribution

  • To identify the legal issues and business opportunities that the regulatory framework governing marketing activities both imposes and offers.

  • Discuss the legal aspects of practical cases related to marketing activities.

  • Argue for or against a particular interpretation of a specific marketing strategy.

Half of the course is devoted to the analysis of real-world cases, enabling students to learn how to apply the legal concepts covered in the theoretical lectures to both hypothetical and actual scenarios

Due domande di scenario in cui gli studenti sono chiamati a riconoscere i problemi giuridici legati a particolari attività di marketing. Più nel dettaglio, le risposte vengono valutate al fine di comprendere se gli studenti abbiano imparato a:

  • Applicare i concetti generali appresi, per individuare i possibili problemi contenuti negli scenari proposti.
  • Discutere i profili giuridici dei casi pratici contenuti in questi stessi scenari.
  • Argomentare a favore o contro una particolare lettura delle strategie di marketing descritte in tali scenari. 
  • Utilizzare il linguaggio giuridico insegnatogli.
