Course Objectives
The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to the major debates, topics, and methods of comparative politics with a particular focus on contemporary democratization processes. The course is divided in four parts. In the first part, the concepts of state, conflict, liberalism and democracy are addressed and discussed. The second part is devoted to the causes of democratization processes and to the modes of regime transitions. The third part focuses on the effects of democratic reforms. Finally, the forms and the functioning of political institutions in advanced democracies is the object of the fourth part of the course.

- Presentazione orale (o paper, massimo 5.000 parole): 30% del voto finale
- Esame scritto (60 minuti): 70% del voto finale
