Obiettivi formativi del corso

Il corso si prefigge l’obiettivo di introdurre le modalità di utilizzo delle informazioni contabili a supporto delle attività di programmazione e controllo della gestione. Il corso ha quale scopo l’introduzione dei processi di decision-making e di valutazione delle performance delle business unit utilizzando i dati contabili. Il corso delinea i meccanismi di contabilità dei costi, le principali tematiche relative al disegno dei sistemi di contabilità dei costi, e il ruolo della contabilità direzionale nei processi decisionali inerenti l’allocazione delle risorse e la valutazione delle performance.

Programma sintetico del corso

Il programma è articolato come di seguito:

I. Programmazione e controllo: introduzione e principi generali:

  • I costi: terminologia, definizioni e criteri di classificazione
  • Analisi delle relazioni esistenti fra i driver di costo, costi variabili e costi fissi e delle principali assunzioni sottostanti alle definizioni di costo fisso e costo variabile
  • I concetti di margine di contribuzione, break-even point, e analisi della relazione fra costi, profitto e volumi di vendita (produzione)

II. Sistemi di cost-accounting:

  • Introduzione al concetto di allocazione dei costi e al computo di costi operativi di gestione
  • Le principali differenze fra i sistemi di calcolo dei costi tradizionali e l’Activity Based Costing

III. Il Budget e l’analisi degli scostamenti:

  • I concetti di budget flessibile e costi standard quali strumenti di programmazione e controllo
  • Il funzionamento dei sistemi a costi standard
  • Analisi degli scostamenti tra costi effettivi e costi standard
  • Il calcolo degli scostamenti di volumi e la relativa analisi degli stessi ai fini della valutazione delle performance aziendali

IV. Decentralizzazione e analisi delle performance:

  • Le ragioni della necessità di decentralizzazione e il concetto e le varie forme di centro di responsabilità
  • La valutazione delle performance con riferimento alle singole business unit
  • La natura delle transazioni infragruppo e l’importanza del mantenimento di una corretta contabilità per le stesse

Course Objectives

This course emphasizes the use of accounting information for internal planning and control purposes. The course is intended as an introduction for individuals who make business decisions and evaluate the performance of business units using data obtained from the accounting system. The course covers the vocabulary and mechanics of cost accounting, basic issues involved in the design of a cost accounting system, and the role of management accounting in decisions concerning resource allocation and performance.


Course Content Summary

The course is structured as followed:

I. Introduction to Management Accounting Concepts:

  • Definition, description and classification of different cost categories
  • Understand the associations between cost drivers, variable costs, and fixed costs, and the major assumptions underlying the definitions of variable and fixed costs
  • The concepts of contribution margin, breakeven point, and cost-volume-profit analysis

II. Cost accounting systems:

  • Introduce cost allocation and the computation of overhead rates
  • Understand the differences between traditional cost systems and Activity-Based Costing (ABC)

III. Budgets and analysis of variances:

  • Flexible budgets and standard costs as aids for planning and control
  • The functioning of standard costing systems
  • Variance analysis between actual and standard costs
  • Computation and meaning of volume variances and the effects of capacity utilization on performance evaluation

IV. Decentralization and Performance Measurement:

  • The reasons behind decentralization and understand the concept and various forms of responsibility accounting
  • The nature of performance evaluation in business units
  • Understand the nature of intra-firm transactions and the importance of proper accounting for them
