The course focuses on the evolution of the industrial firm during the past two centuries using a long term perspective that emphasizes continuity and change, technological discontinuities and socio-economic transformations - all seen as factors that have a strong influence on companies' strategies and structures.
The modern industrial corporation is studied in a wide comparative perspective centered on the three macro-regions of the world economy: the United States, Europe and Asia
- Issues and problems. The evolution of business history between enterprise and entrepreneurship.
- The company in the first industrial revolution: technology and society in front of the factory. The emergence and consolidation of big business. Reflections on structures and strategies. National patterns in the spread of big business.
- Regional variations between state and market: United States, Europe, Japan.
- The company in the age of the narrow space: from World War II to the Third Industrial Revolution.
- The age of globalization: new forms, new challengers.
- Written exam (T/F questions and open questions): up to 30 points.
