Course Objectives

The course teaches how to use the tools of economic theory in the analysis of problems related to economic policy issues.


Course Content Summary

The course studies some of the models and the techniques for solving and using them, which are at the core of recent macro literature. The first part of the course is dedicated to learning how to specify, solve, calibrate and estimate DSGE models. The second part of the course analyzes some DSGE models used in policy analysis, with particular reference to fiscal policy. This part of the course also goes beyond DSGE models studying a few other models that are at the core of modern macro.


Detailed Description of Assessment Methods

The Final Grade is based on by-weekly problem sets, a midterm* exam (optional) and a final written exam.

*You must pass (with a grade of at least 18) both midterm exams in order to receive a final PASS grade in the course.
