Obiettivi formativi del corso
Il corso intende offrire conoscenze di base in tema di struttura e funzionamento dei mercati finanziari, di caratteristiche degli strumenti finanziari, di analisi degli investimenti finanziari e di profili gestionali delle banche e degli altri intermediari finanziari. Lo studio degli argomenti proposti dal programma del corso tiene conto degli assetti regolamentari del contesto italiano e mira ad agevolare gli studenti nella comprensione degli elementi che caratterizzano il comportamento dei soggetti che operano nel sistema finanziario (investitori, intermediari, fornitori di servizi finanziari, Autorità di vigilanza …).

Programma sintetico del corso
  • Il sistema finanziario: struttura e funzioni.
  • Organizzazione dei mercati finanziari e caratteristiche economico-tecniche degli strumenti finanziari.
  • Gli investimenti finanziari: metodi di analisi e di valutazione.
  • Le banche e gli intermediari finanziari non bancari: attività svolta, profili di gestione, rischi tipici.
  • Gli investitori istituzionali (fondi comuni di investimento, compagnie di assicurazione, fondi pensione …).
  • La regolamentazione del sistema finanziario.

Descrizione dettagliata delle modalità d'esame

Gli esami si svolgono in forma scritta, con modalità mista multiple choice questions (85% della valutazione) e domanda aperta (15% della valutazione). Gli studenti possono optare per il sostenimento di una prova parziale. Le modalità di esame sono le stesse per studenti frequentanti e non frequentanti.

Gli argomenti proposti dal programma del corso sono trattati considerando come già noti elementi e nozioni riconducibili soprattutto ai corsi di Matematica finanziaria, di Economia aziendale e di Bilancio.

Course Objectives
The main objective of this course is to provide the students with a general understanding of the different functions performed by financial markets and institutions and their role in the economic system. We start by giving a brief overview of the functions of the financial system and its connections to the real economy. We then study the functioning of financial markets and the main financial instruments. Finally, we study the economics of different types of financial institutions.

Course Content Summary
The first part of the course analyzes in detail the characteristics of the major financial assets, and describes the institutional characteristics of the markets in which these assets are traded. The second part of the course studies in detail the objectives as well as the organization of the major financial intermediaries (commercial banks, investment banks, mutual funds) that allow to match demand and supply of funds when securities markets do not function perfectly.

Detailed Description of Assessment Methods
There are two written exams: a partial exam around the second half of October (tbd) and a cumulative general exam (based on the material covered during the whole course) on December (tbd) (the following general exam after that takes place on January, tbd).
There is no second partial exam; all students must take the general exam.
