Course Objectives

The course aims at highlighting  both th role that R&D activities may play to contribute to the competitiveness of industrial firms and what are the peculiarities of R&D management.
Actually, in the last years, the R&D management has faced a lot of changes, that have also determined relevant implications on the competences required to the managers of this department.
During the course, classes are integrated by cases discussions and companies presentations.


Course Content Summary

Some issues and managerial tools are deployed. Particularly:

  • the role of R&D in the process of industrial innovation
  • approaches to R&D strategies formulation
  • the selection of R&D projects
  • the ways of technological acquisition
  • "time" in R&D management
  • the organization of R&D department
  • centralization versus decentralization
  • the management of R&D global networks
  • the delinking of R from D
  • national and super-national R&D systems
